Words are your last priority.

What do I mean by that?

A lot of people put their full-blown focus on the words that they express when they communicate with others. Although your words have incredible power and can transform your audience’s emotion, this is the last piece to becoming an authoritative speaker.

What is the #1 component of communication?

After investing my time, energy, and money into learning the art of public speaking and studying the greatest speakers to ever walk the face of this earth, I have this one common theme. Tony Robbins is a living example of someone who electrifies the audience based on this rule that he’s mastered. Eric Thomas creates an empowering atmosphere for his audience when he presents because of this one rule. Lastly, Les Brown shifts his audience’s emotions based on the impact of this insane rule.

Now, let’s breakdown the rule:

7%- Words:

Your words are incredibly powerful to your audience because it allows them to understand and gain clarity from the message you deliver. When you speak the words to your audience, the message can be conveyed differently compared to someone else. For example, I want you to say the word: communication. First, I want you to say it in a relaxed tone; After you said it the first time, say, “communication” like you just had $1M deposited in your bank account. Do you notice the difference? It’s the same exact word but the message was conveyed differently.

38%- Tonality:

After breaking down that example, this boils me down to the importance of tonality. As you can see in the previous example, your tonality changes the way you deliver your message. When you present in front of an audience, the audience understands your message when you project your tonality because you are establishing a connection with their emotions. Your voice is an empowering tool that creates an environment of trust and influence.

55%- Body language:

Whether you are speaking in front of an audience of 1000s, 100s, 10s, or even one person, the way you present yourself is the most vital piece to your communication. Because it shows you are comfortable in your own skin and confident in your ability to communicate. People aren’t focused on what words come out of your mouth, instead, they analyze your tone and the way you present yourself as a whole. So here are some tips: always have eye contact, smile, have a straight back and use your hands to deliver your message.

When you master all three of these crucial concepts, you transform yourself into an authoritative speaker! If you want to learn more public speaking techniques, come listen to my podcast where I drop golden nuggets to make sure you execute and perform your communication at its finest.
